FIRST DAY:
As we got closer to our destination, Gardiner, MT, we started to see more mountains and lots of cattle, along with mule deer and elk. Once we arrived at Gardiner, we unpacked and decided to go out for diner. As Morgan and I walked around town, looking for a place to eat, we saw lots of mule deer on peoples lawns. This was refreshing to witness because I am not used to seeing such amazing creatures roaming around like nothing’s wrong. It’s something that I like about this place, you never know what you’ll see…
SECOND DAY:
I was glad that today we had a late start… The first thing that we did was attend Travis Wyman’s presentation at Mammoth Hot Springs at 9am. He talked about elk populations, game preservation, distribution of live elk, etc. This presentation was interesting but not something I was look for. Anyway, after that, we went and took a pH sample from Canary Springs. It was a shocker to find out that it’s pH is neutral, which is something I was not expecting. On the second pH sample from somewhere in the Norris Geyser, it’s pH was between 1-2. This day was very informative and relaxing. I really enjoyed how Mike, our tour guide, focused a lot on geology. I learned a few things that I did not know from class. Overall, this was a fun day, can’t wait for tomorrow! I’m hoping to see some wolves along our way to Hayden Valley!!
