Is it bad to say that the first day of our trip has already surpassed my expectations? I had been to yellowstone before when i was younger, and in fact my younger brother was born in Cody Wyoming. But those previous visits are vague in my mind. Today was an amazing day, we started by hopping into a tour bus with the wonderful Shauna guiding us around the park. Our first stop was just before Mammoth Hot Springs where we saw bighorn sheep frolicking on a hillside. At Mammoth we had the privilege of listening to one of the park’s veteran biologists, Travis Wyman who spoke to us about the park’s history and how it has changed over the years and after the introduction of the wolves. I learned a lot and I have a newfound respect and jealousy of the biologists and rangers that work in YNP. After our visit with Travis we went on a short hike to visit an abandoned wolf den. Along the trail we came across a buffalo and elk death sites and learned a lot about how they died and how the predators and scavengers fed on the carcasses. Finally at the end of the day we met with a YNP photographer named MacNeil Lyons who took us through all 4 seasons of Yellowstone through his photos. He had very interesting information for us that helps when we are taking photos in the field.
Well this has been my first post, it is a day late but with the issues we have been having getting logged into the blog, its better late then never!
Thanks for reading
