I was really excited to go to the lamar valley and set up for wolves, but we kept driving back and forth to find Doug M. On one of the many circles we came across a couple of bighorn sheep and got a couple pictures, then off to driving more circles. Once we caught up, we looked for a while for some wolves to come out in to a valley, but they turned around and went the other direction. During this time Doug talked to us about some of the things that he’s seen over the years. So, after the talk and not seeing wolves and lots of driving in circles, we went to slough creek, where we were earlier, and were able to see three wolves just before they went over a ridge. After this interesting ordeal, we went and had lunch. Following lunch, we did a little hiking to a couple bull elk carcasses, they were huge. We also did a little hiking to wolf 9’s old den. We talked here for quite awhile mostly about stories we already heard, but o well. When we rapped up at the den, we went to look for pikas. I was just walking up a trail fallowing half the group when I spotted 2 on the rocks. The group was already gone when I looked forward again, but a few of the guys saw them too from a little ways behind me. We watched them for a few minutes then Gage came tromping over the hill and they scattered. I’m glad i had a chance to see them before we left. We finished the day of with reading an essay written by Aldo Leopold at lava creek.
