The drive yesterday was long but the scenery was stunning. We saw elk and mule deer before we even got into the park. This morning there was clear skies and the scenery was breathtaking, the mountains had snow on the peaks and there were lots of bison feeding on the grass. The first Canids (Dog family; Wolves, coyotes, fox…) we saw was a family of coyotes the four of them were at a old carcass and the younger two were playing. A few miles down the road we found the Junction Butte pack and they were loafing around in the grass. The wolves were so much larger then I thought and it was awesome to actually see them in real life. We met with Travis a bear biologist and he discussed how they managed bears historically and how they do it now. It was interesting how they learned from their mistakes such as feeding the bears garbage and keeping them as pets and how they have become more wild. I am excited to learn about the wolves tomorrow and to explore the hydro-thermal features later this week.

What is the weather like there? Cold? How big were the wolves in comparison to say an average sized German Shepherd?
It is around 25 when we get up but it gets up into the low 30’s throughout the day. I would say there are slightly larger then a German Shepard. They can get up to about 130lbs
