Day two was focused mostly around wolves and their placement in the ecosystem. We got up at 6am to start the day off. We went to the Lamar Valley where we saw the pack from yesterday, but they were not found today. After that we went on a short hike where we looked at an elk skull that has been laying there for a couple years. We hiked back to the car and took another hike to the wolves pens. The 3 mile hike to the pens was filled with beautiful scenery and mushy hiking paths. Although we didn’t see any wolves the day was filled with wildlife such as coyotes, bison, and mountain goats. We met up with Yellowstone Forever employee Nathan, who talked shortly on wolves and their benefits in the Yellowstone ecosystem. The best part of the day was getting out into the wild on some back trail and adventuring in a historic places.

The talk of wolves is very interesting! Was it pretty easy to identify the Alpha of the pack the day you saw them?
What were the wolf pens like? How far did you get to hike?
