Today we focused on wolves for talks and the places we went to visit. We started off our day scanning the Lamar Valley for wolves again, but were only greeted by bison. Luckily we had seen the Junction Butte pack there yesterday. We then went on a short hike to look at a suspected wolf killed elk that was off in a drainage ditch. While this is a pretty unique bull elk skull with drop tines, those of us that went on this trip last year had already seen it. We did however get to go on about a 3 mile hike to go see the acclimation pens where they kept the wolves during the reintroduction for about 2 months before letting them loose into the wilderness of Yellowstone. This was interesting to go see, because it was such a controversial topic to reintroduce the wolves and it still is, but the wolves play such a major part in keeping the Yellowstone ecosystem healthy.
