Yellowstone Day 1

We started our morning at six o’clock and headed straight for the Lamar Valley on the eastern side of the park.  We were looking for any sort of wildlife we could find.  We found many herds of bison, quite a few elk, and a couple of coyotes.  Directly after that we went to Crystal creek, the hike that we took was not very far but we found a lot of mammal sign.  Some of the sign that we found were from bison, elk, wolves, beavers, and fox.  Once our hike was finished we found a picnic area for a quick lunch.  When we left the picnic area we were looking for pika, a small rodent in the rabbit family.  To do this we found a wall of loose rock where the survey was suppose to take place.  For the survey we listened and glassed the entire wall for roughly ten minutes before scaling the rocks to do a survey on the way down.  For this survey we were looking for scat or hay stacks made by pika.  Once we finished our survey we headed back to Gardner to listen to a speech about climate change which took about an hour before bunking up for the night.
