This morning was difficult. Motivation was low going out based on yesterdays weather which continued into today. There was little luck in Lamar valley, with a couple bear sightings. We spoke to Rick who said our only chance at wolves today would be if we trekked to the south end of the park to the Fountain Flats.
Once at the flats we found out we had gotten there 5 minutes too late and the group of seven wolves had moved on. We still pressed our luck and saw two greys one being the beta female(who might actually be the new alpha) sniffing out the rest of their pack. After about 20 minutes and a race up a hill for a better vantage point we ended up seeing more members of the pack. Our guide Taylor said we saw 12 different wolves from the pack.
With today being our last day with the wolf watchers I think it wrapped itself up quite nicely. Two packs were out( the 8-mile pack was bedded down and we were out of time) so that gives promise going into tomorrow. The Junction pack still hasn’t been seen so that’s growing more concerning. Tomorrow is the last day we have exploring the park, so I’m calling it early tonight to enjoy the most I can tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing more of the southern part of the park and some Yellowstone “must sees”
