Another early start with the Wolf Trackers. We headed to the Lamar Valley to look for the Junction Pack to see if they were back in the park. We didn’t see any wolves at our spots in the morning. We did spot a grizzly bear digging up some plants to eat in the Lamar Valley. Afterwards, our guides talked with Rick McIntyre to see where our best shot at seeing wolves were. He said that we should go down south in the park to find the Wapiti pack and that would be our best chance to see wolves. We drove down to where the Wapiti pack members usually hang out and we got there 5 minutes too late. The people at the spot had seen 7 wolves run into the opposite treeline. We decided to drive to the other side of the trees to see if we could spot them coming out. We weren’t seeing any movement so our guide chose to bring us back to the first site and have us climb a hill to get a better vantage point with our scopes. On the way back to the parking lot where we stopped first our guide noticed two grey wolves scent trailing in the meadow across the road. We got to watch them walk into the treeline there and then we hurried and parked in the parking lot and went a bit into the trees there to get a good view at the other side of the river. We got to watch the two grey wolves walk to the river and cross it before going back into a treeline. They were not even a mile away from us so we got some really nice footage. Then we climbed up the hill with scopes to see if we could spot anymore. After waiting a couple minutes we saw a black wolf a couple miles away in a clearing and then a grey wolf joined it. A while later 3 more black wolves came out into the clearing and two more grey wolves came. Rick McIntyre was happy that he made it in time to see them because he had missed the first two we had seen. We then headed back to Gardiner as our tour was over. On our way back we stopped because there was a line of cars at a pull off and the people there said that the 8-mile pack was bedded down in the distance we didn’t stay to watch because you couldn’t really see the wolves. When we got back to Gardiner we said thank you to our guides and then separated for the rest of the evening. It was a good day to wrap up our time with the Wolf Trackers. Shout out to the guide driving our bus, Taylor Bland, she was amazing!
