A hiking we will go

We woke up early this morning and were on the road by 6:15. It was so dark and the stars were so bright. We drove around looking for wolves and thought we would also see a bear on the old kill site from the wolves yesterday but no luck. After awhile I finally got my wish of seeing a pika. For those of you readers who don’t know what they are they are adorable little fluff balls of joy. Just kidding, but seriously. They belong in the rabbit family and are small critters that live in dens under huge outcrops of lava rocks. They can’t live in any temperature above 77.9 F for more than 4 hours otherwise they die of heat stroke. While there we lost Lane and Lex and sent Cole after them to find them. They ended up on TOP of the mountain. Meanwhile, our tour guide is freaking out. But it was all good and we had a good laugh.

After the pika we drove around for a bit wildlife watching and finally ended up on the far east side of the Lamar Valley near Soda Butte Creek. There we took lunch. After lunch we hiked about 2 miles in on Barrinet Trail. It was very pretty. We hiked out and made our way to the boiling river. The boiling river is near Mammoth Hot Springs. There are caves which the HOT water comes out of and mixes with the Gardiner River. We waded in and sat down in our bathing suits and it was AWESOME.

We came back and had supper and now its bed time. So until tomorrow bloggers!
