Today we had an early start to the day by leaving the hotel at 6:00 am to make it to Hayden Valley as the sun came out to increase our odds of seeing the the wolf pack that has been traveling in that area. We stood out there for a solid 30 minutes before everyone was freezing cold in the 27 degree Fahrenheit with a real feel of around 17 degrees. After the unsuccessful lookout, we cruised down the Yellowstone Lake where we went on a 3 mile round hike and found a bunch of different mammal signs. When we arrived at the lake it was a little hard to enjoy the view with the cold temperatures and the blowing snow which made a cloud that made it difficult to see the mountains. Our next destination was the fishing bridge for lunch where we were stranded for a little since our original route had been blocked so we had to find a new route. After lunch we went to one of the geyser basin to look at the mudpots and the other thermals around it. We ended our day with a fun rock climbing adventure while looking for pika sign in one of the rock walls. We were able to find tracks and scat of the elusive and climate change indicator pika. Since we covered almost the whole park today we spent a lot of time in the bus which was accompanied by tour guide who filled us full of information on the Grizzly bear management and how the population made a dramatic decrease and how the Endangered Species Act helped along with the controversial topics of them coming off the list.
