Today was a wet one in the books. We got up around 6am and ate breakfast then started out for our second day in the park. We began by scouting for grizzly bears and more wolves. Although we didn’t see much we did see some wildlife throughout the park. Elk, deer, coyote, and pika! We went to a small part of the park where rock was scattered pretty high up, to find these small mammals. We ended up finding a couple pika and then continued to our next journey.
When we left we drove around for about a half and hour to find mountain goats in a higher, rockier area. We ended up finding a handful of goats in the area. When we left that area we stopped at a restroom where previously that day a coyote swiped at a 14 year olds hand. Right before we left the same coyote came back and was inches to biting a new victim. All of us watched as 2 rangers went out and took care of that situation.
More into the afternoon we went out and hiked for a couple hours. We stopped at the Lamar River and sat and listened quietly for a half and hour. It was pretty neat to take in all of the surrounding. Then it was on to our next stop where we talked to our speaker. We talked about climate change and how Yellowstone effects the whole United States. I thought an interesting part of that was when they told us that around 30% of species could become extinct within a 100 years.
All in all a pretty wet but nice day to go about the park. Tomorrow is full of hiking and swimming, should be a great time!
