I’m writing a day late but I suppose that’s okay.
This morning didn’t go as planned. We tried going to the canyon but we got stopped by heavy snow. It dusted the landscape and transformed it into a winter wonderland. It makes me wish that our vehicles had all wheel drive so we could have seen more. The scene was so picturesque it felt like you were in a movie.
Because of turning due to the snow we ended up back in Mammoth for a bit. At first there was talk of going back to the hotel, luckily we decided against it. On our drive down to Old Faithful we came across two wolves, one black, and one grey feeding on a carcass not 100 yards from the road. It seemed surreal to watch them tear into it like it was nothing. Based on location our guess was they may be from the Wapiti pack.
Once to Old Faithful we got to see it go off twice. From there we went to grand prismatic. I wish the steam wasn’t so thick so that we could’ve seen the colors better. The overlook walk is worth it to see everything from above, even with the steam. After we came down we went to the fountain paint pots. We had three geysers go off continuously and simultaneously. It was made quite obvious that they are interconnected watching how they fed off each other.
On our drive back the day in the park came to a perfect end as we had a gorgeous vibrant rainbow. It was as if it was sending us off as our Yellowstone journey came to an end.
