Emma- Day 3

Today we left the motel around 6 am for our wolf day and made our way to the park. We went to the same place that we saw the wolves the previous day to see if the wolves would got through the rendezvous area again. After awhile our tour guide, Virginia, spotted a Grizzly Bear just below where the wolves went over a hill the previous day. We stayed out there for about 10-20 minutes and we didn’t see the wolves coming through, we left and went to find a bison herd with a collared individual.  We thought that we saw a bison with a collar. We did a herd count and tried to locate the collared bison but we could not find it so we could not collect a scat sample. After we loaded back on the bus and headed back to the areas with the willows to look for moose but we didn’t see any. so we went to sough creek to see what was hanging around that area which were only two mallards. We loaded back up in the van and started to drive down the road and we saw a lot of people pulled off to the side of the road and so we pulled over and walked over to see what they were observing which were the Junction pack that were bedded down very far off on a large hill. We stayed there for about 10 minutes watching the wolves and they would occasionally lift their heads then lay back down. After watching the wolves for a bit we left to head towards the bison ranch to hike up to wolf 9, 10, and 7’s accumulation cage where we had lunch inside the accumulation cage. It took us two hours to get to the location and back to the bus. We headed back to Gardiner for our presentation on wolves.

  • The days sound very long but also very rewarding! It sounds like you all stayed busy and were constantly looking and watching for different types of animals.
