The Yellowstone trip was a great experience. The Wolf Trackers that guided us out there really knew a lot about the park and had lots of experience. Quin and Taylor were always willing to answer any of our questions and were very accommodating the whole time. They had worked in Yellowstone for quite a few years and had a really deep understanding of how the Yellowstone ecosystem operated. They really made the experience at Yellowstone memorable. We got to see a lot of wildlife, geysers and scenery during the trip. The wildlife was definitely the most exciting part of the trip for me. We got to see grizzlies, black bears, wolves, fox, elk, bison, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, mule deer, and pronghorn.
The wolves were definitely the highlight of the trip for me though. We got to see a pair of wolves really close probably around 200yds away. The wolf trackers believed that one of the wolves, a white wolf, was the beta female and possibly the new alpha female of the Wapiti pack. We got to watch the pair cross the Firehole River and trot on down a valley where we lost them for a bit. We then decided to climb a hilltop from there we got to see the pair join up with the rest of their pack of about a dozen wolves. It was really cool to watch the wolves behave in a pack setting and how they interacted. Definitely a memory I won’t soon forget.
All in all, it was a great trip. The only thing I would change is that I wish we did more hiking during the trip. We did too much driving in my opinion, and it would have been nice to get away from the roads and people more often. I definitely recommend this school trip to anyone who is thinking about doing it, it’s a great time.
