What I learned was all about the different jobs of a wolf tracker and their viewpoints on wolves. It was interesting to learn how the wolf trackers interact with people, if someone is mean to them they still have to be nice to the person. It was also interesting that some guides were jealous or didn’t like our wolf trackers because they actually work with the wolves and could use radio telemetry to track the wolves but they don’t. Unlike the public the wolf trackers do not like seeing to the wolves get close up to people because they would have an easier time being shot because they are more used to people. What I enjoyed the most was the last day with the trackers getting to see the multiple wolves and seeing the cross the river. It was really cool watching them chase the bison and watching the play. What I would like to more after the experience is more of what the wolf trackers do and what other jobs are out there that would deal with the park and working with wolves. I will always remember the excitement of on the way to Old Faithful and seeing the wolves on the side of the road tearing apart a carcass. I will also remember going to the archives and getting to see the Cinderella wolf. It was really cool to see the wolf we talked about in class a lot. It was a lot of fun getting to learn more about the people I have had class with and making new friends.
What the events or experiences told me is that Yellowstone is a much different place than somewhere like Minnesota or North Dakota. Unlike Minnesota or North Dakota in Yellowstone the Wildlife rule the area and we are just there for the ride. For example, we had to stop for the Bison and in other places the Bison would be moved for us. In Yellowstone most of the Wildlife are used to people and not hunted. In places like Minnesota and North Dakota those animals would be hunted. It was interesting to see how close some of the wolves let us get to them. Learning from the guides those wolves would be killed outside of the park.
