This morning we went to the Lamar Valley to see some wolves in action. Unfortunately, we did not see/find any. As we drove to our next destination, Mike, our tour guide, spotted Doug McLaughlin, a wolf aficionado. We decided to follow him around so we could meet him and to see the 8 Mile Pack that the wolf watchers were anticipating on seeing around the valley. Once again, no luck. But Doug talked about the life history of 06. He mentioned a lot of things I already knew, but I still found it extraordinary! After meeting Doug, we made our way to the next location, but on the way there see saw a huddle of people standing by with their fancy equipment pointing towards a valley in Slough Creek. The excitement of finding out that they were observing wolves is unexplainable! To be frank, I was so happy that we got to see the Junction Butte Pack because for the past few days, we had no luck… Anyway, the rest of the day was informative and quite active. We hiked at two different locations, which had beautiful scenery. At the end our expedition, Mike read us an essay written from Aldo Leopold. This piece was very inspiring and an eye opener on why wolves are more than just “ferocious animals”, they are majestic and much needed creatures in this ecosystem…
