History

The Great Plains STEM Education Center (GPSEC) at Valley City State University is in the business to support teachers across the PK-16 spectrum in problem- and project-based learning strategies in a strategy to motivate more students/graduates into the STEM disciplines.

Motivating STEM is a goal of the Yellowstone project. As participants learn in advance of the inter-related infrastructure of the Yellowstone National Park, how the re-introduction of the wolf has prompted richer forests and higher diversity, the visit to the park becomes a memorable perspective-changing capstone experience.

Dr. Gary Ketterling has developed this experience as a model STEM program into a credit-based course hosted by Valley City State University, the syllabus can be found here.
