Jon’s Day 3 in Yellowstone

Today we traveled to see the pika.  They are a little rabbit/squirrel animal that lives in rock piles in the mountains.  We assisted the Yellowstone Forever group in identifying 3 pika.  The pika are an indicator species for climate change.

After leaving the pika, we drove towards the Lamar valley and found the wolf watchers.  They had their scopes all sighted on the Junction wolf pack.  The Junctions had just made a kill while we were watching the pikas.  We watched them for some time while the wolves had their smorgasbord.

After we left the wolves, we climbed Junction Butte, which the wolves are named after.  The climb was hard, but well worth it.  In the distance, we could see Mt. Wahsborn really well.  The hike today was my favorite part of the trip.
