Today we went on multiple walks with our tour guide and gained a lot of knowledge. Right off the bat we stopped in the Lamar Valley just to get our selves familiarized with the spotting scopes and to look for wolves, which we were unsuccessful in doing so. After we left Lamar Valley we made the trip up to crystal creek for our first real hike. While it wasn’t very far it was pretty interesting because we were able to spot multiple beaver dams, and even saw a couple wolf tracks along the way. Next on the agenda was to go search for Pika. Right away we sat next to a rock face and did our best to just sit and listen/look for a Pika that might be scurrying around in the rocks. A couple students claimed they heard Pika but nobody actually saw one. Our tour guide then had us do a science survey for Pika, and we had to lay out a rope then walk along it on both sides to look for scat and hay piles. We were able to find many signs of scat but no hay piles, then ended the day with a climate change presentation in town that helped us to grasp how the ecosystem is affected by the ever-changing climate.
