All day Ive had a stat Shauna shared with us that less then 1% of the almost 4 million tourist that visit Yellowstone hike more then a half mile from any road or board walk. The last three days we went well beyond that very easily.
Today without Shauna we went site seeing all over the park. First stop was the Grand canyon of Yellowstone and the upper and lower water falls. Luckily for us it was raining all morning that kept the fair weathered tourist at home. Later in the afternoon we went through the Norris, upper, mid-way, and lower geyser basins as well. These areas are filled with hot pools, gas vents that sound like jet engines, and the famous geysers like old faithful. One thing i noticed reacquiring through out each of them was the lack of care for this delicate ecosystem of each one. There was trash in almost each one and people walking up to edge which is very dangerous. At the edge I seen a guy today with a stick crape and stir around the bacteria crust, pulled the stick out and burn is hand. How bad i am not sure. It was obviously to me the more tourists that come to the park the more the impacts will be seen and felt.
