This morning we were greeted with snow again. The park is truly beautiful when it snows and seeing the geysers in the snow was something I could have stared at all day. The only problem was that it didn’t stop snowing, it kept going on and on. By the time we got to Old Faithful all the roads in the park were closed. We had to wait for almost 2 hours until the road to the west entrance was opened and we left right away because we were afraid that if we waited we would get stuck there all night. As we drove past the other geothermal features you could see plumes of steam but that was about it. It took an extra 3 hours to get back to Gardiner but we finally made it. I cant wait to get back to Yellowstone either by myself or again next year.

The snow never makes anything fun. Did you get to see Old Faithful though?
Hi Wyatt,
Being able to see the geysers covered in snow sounds so beautiful. I could probably stare at it all day as well if I were able to see it. Although it is really unfortunate that the snow got so bad. I wish you guys could’ve spent the day at Old Faithful because I’m sure it would’ve been amazing. I hope you were able to stay safe with all the bad weather. Were the snow covered geysers your favorite thing to see in Yellowstone? Or was there something else at the park you really loved getting to see?
How did the snow affect your ability to see and locate certain kinds of wildlife? Do wolves stay hidden during harsh weather or do they come out and about?
The snow actually made it easier to spot wildlife once it stopped falling. Wolves are pretty tough and the cold didnt seem to affect them at all.
sorry that it snowed too much, would you recommend this trip to other people? If so what would be the deciding factor for you to get them to Yellowstone?
Yes I would very much recomend it. This area is in my opinion one of the most scenic places in the country and being able to see wildlife like bison and wolves in the wild makes it truly unique and different from anywhere else I have been. Also Yellowstone is home to 2/3 of the Geysers in the world and that is always worth seeing.
How many inches of snow did you get? Did it harm your trip in any way other than time?
Where we were there was about 3 inches but I am sure there was more higher in the mountains. We did have to cut our day short cause we had to take the long way back to the hotel But we did get to see the west side of Yellowstone so that was a bonus
With the snow did you get to see anything cool?
you could see the bison and elk easier at a further distance. also the snow makes it at least twice as beautiful in my opinion
How did the snow affect your research? Was tracking harder in the snow?
