Yellowstone Final Day and Reflection

On our last day at Yellowstone National Park we visited Mammoth Hot Springs before the snow storm moved in. It was interesting seeing the Hot Springs and how it was like a cascade of flowing hot water. I learned quite a bit in Yellowstone National Park from learning how to do a Pika survey on a rocky slope, to doing Bison demographics and learning to sex them in the field. I got to see a wolf pack (Junction Pack) in action and learn how they play a role as a keystone species within Yellowstone and how they control the elk and bison populations. As a birder and Ornithologist I noticed there was a lack of bird species, yes October is slow for birding in general but it was strange not seeing as many birds. I totaled 21 species of birds within the park. I did’t get the four species that I was looking for but I enjoyed the trip and our guest speakers. I also got to spend this trip with some awesome people that I will never forget! I hope to someday visit Yellowstone National Park again.
